What is the Onion Creek Metro Park District (OCMPD)?
Onion Creek Metro Park District is a special taxation district in southeast Austin, about 8 miles from Downtown. Spanning over 700 acres, it includes the Goodnight Ranch development and borders the City of Austin owned Onion Creek Metropolitan Park and Greenbelt Corridors.
The Onion Creek Metro Park District “in-District” improvements include parkland, trails, wet ponds, streetscapes and playgrounds. Additional parks will be added over the next several years to include at least 120 aces of recreation space within the District boundaries. These improvements will include a series of trails, both paved and nature trails, including a primary loop with pedestrian underpasses which increases pedestrian safety and connectivity across Slaughter Lane.
The OCMPD was established to fund and maintain public recreational spaces, primarily within its district. As the budget allows, the District may take on operation and maintenance for new construction projects within Onion Creek Metropolitan Park and the Greenbelt Corridors. It operates under the following legal agreements: • Senate Bill 1872, filed with the Texas Secretary of State on June 14, 2013 • Consent Agreement between the City of Austin, OCMPD, and Goodnight Ranch LP, signed on June 26, 2014 • First Amendment to the Consent Agreement, signed on August 9, 2020
